Many times when we decide to take on a new adventure, we seem to get delayed in getting started.
Has that ever happened to you?
I know it has for me.
Why is that?
Well it seems to me that many of us get stalled because we just don’t want to look bad. In other words, we are concerned about what others will think about us……it’s the fear of not looking good……or in some cases just looking different.
I was thinking about this the other day when I got an email from a young mother who told me about her first Probate success.
Here’s the Cliff Notes version.
She said after she finished going through my “Seminar-in-a-Box”, she started furiously making phone calls to the Personal Representatives she could find that had phone numbers. She said within two weeks she found a willing seller. She then used the material from the Private Money seminar to locate someone to loan her the money for the purchase and four weeks later she sold the property for a profit of $6741.

WOW!
She did all this in less than three months!
Amazing!
Now did you notice the one thing she did that I do not advise?
She started calling the PR’s before she mailed out the letter.
That’s not what I suggest you do. I prefer you mail my letter and THEN call.
But here was her reasoning. She needed money quickly so she decided if she called first, she could find a willing seller sooner. The sooner she found a seller, the quicker she could put money in her pocket and she needed money right now.
She needed the money to feed her two young kids because her husband had taken a hike and left her with very little money and no job.
She was desperate.
She didn’t care how she looked.
She needed money…..and right now.
Now I realize $6700 is not a huge real estate deal…….but I’ll bet for an unemployed Mom with two young kids, an extra $2300 per month IS a big deal.
How’s this for a contrast.
I talked with a friend of ours who is having difficult times also. She has taken a part time job on evenings and weekends at a local convenience store to help her family out.
By working 20 hours per week, she expects to net around $550 per month.
I told her about some of the many stories I have gotten from folks who have needed extra money just like she does and have decided to give Probate investing a try.
She says she’s just afraid it won’t work for her. She’s more comfortable just doing the clerk’s job.
I can’t seem to talk her out of it. Fear has her in it’s grip..
How about you? Has fear got you stymied?
I hope not.
I have always remembered this simple explanation of the FEAR acronym,
F alse
E xpectations
A ppearing
R eal
I think the key is the first two words, false and expectations.
Don’t let FEAR of anything keep you paralyzed and in your box.
Have you ever noticed how I sign all my emails?
I say, “Be Happy, Take Chances, Live Life Fully!”
You see where I say “Take Chances”? I say that because much of my life I have heard folks say to me “Be Careful” as if they were asking me to be cautious.
Well, if there is one thing I have learned by now is that I have had my most successes (and fun) when I have taken chances…..not by being cautious.
And far and away my most success has come from my venture into Probate real estate in 1996.
So whatever your dream, I hope you can overcome your fear and begin now.
“Boldness has genius, power and magic in it” said Goethe.
